In May we have lots of family birthday's and this year I'm trying to make as many homemade presents as possible. What can be better than a handmade present from your Grandchild / nephew. As we are big on gardening at the moment we thought we'd try our hand at making some flower kits that I'd seen in a kids activity book we have. Here's how they turned out....
First up the bits the kids were involved in - the painting. They got stuck in quite quickly painting the pots upside down, meant the bottoms were a little bit more beautiful than I'd anticipated, but as long as I kept putting different colours in front of the boys the results were quite pretty.
This was a good craft for Little Dude too, he happily painted away and doing it outdoors meant I didn't have to worry about the mess.
The finished results looked pretty good. I accidentally left the price label on and the boys painted over them so when I peeled them off I wrote 'flower pot' in permanent pen. I also varnished them with glue so that hopefully they can be used outdoors without the paint washing off.
Then to make it a flower planting kit and not just a plant pot I bagged up stones to go in the bottom of the pot for drainage, a bag with some summer flowering bulbs (I snipped some holes in the bag so they don't go mouldy), I also added some instructions and a bag of dirt.
This is the full kit all lined up, plus a saucer for the plant pot to sit on.
Then I packed it all inside the pot.
I placed the saucer on top, added the instructions and tied it all up with ribbon.
I hope you liked out flower planting kit, hopefully everyone receiving this gift will enjoy it too.
