Planting with kids - milk jug herbs

This year we've been enjoying doing a bit of gardening with the boys, mostly fruit and vegetables so I'm delighted to be sharing our milk jug herbs with the Planting with Kids Blog Hop (join up below if you've been planting with kids).

We recycled our milk jugs into plant containers for growing some herbs, here's what we did...

I set up everything on a tray to start so that we could easily plant outside.  I also made one of the planters so the boys could see what it was we were making.

First up we cut the top off the milk jug.

Then we pierced holes in the bottom of the container so that any excess water can drain out.

Then we added gravel to the bottom of the container again for drainage.

Next up we added the compost, this bit was great for all three boys to join in with, especially Little Dude our youngest.

Finally, we added the seeds and a layer more of compost.

And it worked!  We put the containers on the windowsill and this is the growth we have so far, nothing from the Rosemary so far, but the Parsley and Basil are doing well.

If you've been planting with kids, why not join in the blog hop or check out some of the other participants.
