Chalk Monsters (& Outdoor Play Party)

Welcome back to another Outdoor Play Party, we'd love to see your outdoor play, this is what we've been up to....

We love getting outdoors and as the weather is getting a bit better I thought we'd brave the cold, but didn't have any activities planned so needed a quick simple idea to entice the boys outside.  I pulled out our chalks which we haven't used for ages and told the boys there was a monster in the garden big enough to eat them.  Then we headed out...

I drew a chalk monster on the paving and challenged the boys to see if they could draw a monster fierce enough to defeat mine.

Champ accepted my challenge and drew an orange monster with a huge horn that he said could defeat my monster.

He then drew a map on the garden table.

Then with a bit of help drew Bilbo Baggins, gave him a sword and marked 'x' for some treasure.

Bud couldn't really be enticed to join in with the drawing, but he did enjoy the imaginary play and came by with a ride on filled with stones to 'bomb' the monster.

The boys love to play outside once they are out there, but sometimes getting them outside can be hard, this was a great way to get them out there and kick start their play.

What have you been up to?  We had LOADS of great play ideas linked up last time.  My favourite has to be this Snow Castle from Life with Moore Babies, looks like this was a big family project and the results are impressive, just a shame we have no snow here!

  1. We've got a 3mx3m patio which would be perfect for chalk drawing but any time it rains it floods and takes ages to dry off! Must rectify that!

  2. Chalk outdoors is such a lovely one for little ones to go mad with. I wish I had thought of this when mine started writing, giant letters in chalk would have been a great way to begin.

  3. Love your chalk monsters, I am a big fan of chalk & am always amazed at how creative the children can be on a bigger scale outside. I'm afraid i can only manage to draw spiders, jelly fish & octopuses!! But I bet I could now tackle a monster or 2.
