Nature Colour Hunt (Outdoor Play Party)

I'm delighted today to be joining the Outdoor Play Party as a co-host.  Outdoor play is becoming a really important part of our family life so I'm delighted to be joining in.

I'd seen this idea for a nature colour hunt at Come Together Kids where they'd used paint swatches.  As I didn't have any paint swatches I decided to make my own colour cards with Autumnal colours.

The weather in our part of the UK has been wet and cold recently and it's getting harder and harder to get the boys outside, especially Bud who comes home from school tired.

What seems to work best is lots of outdoor play at weekends and short playtimes on the way home from school which we walk to and from.

I handed out the cards and the boys started hunting, we made it a competition.  For every colour matched they got a small sweet, that kick started their enthuasiasm!

They soon matched up their cards.

The sweets soon ran out, but they kept running round finding more colours and hiding behind trees.  Lots of fun!

As this is my first time co-hosting I'm not going to feature anyone this week, but will next time - I'm really looking forward to checking out all your outdoor play ideas!

Any kind of children's outdoor play is welcome!

  1. Welcome as a co-host! I love this idea & I bet it made the walk from school even more fun. It's always amazing to see how many different colours of brown & green there are in nature. Kierna

  2. This looks great fun. I have done this using a shades of green paint chart. I imagine though the children found it much more satisfying painting their own colour swatches.
