World's Easiest Kite Ever!

Life was a bit busy last week and I didn't get the chance to post about our daily outdoor activities - so here they are from two weeks ago, come back tomorrow and I'll also be sharing what we did last week!

Monday 4th June - It seems light year's away now but this was the long weekend due to the Queen's Jubilee so Hubby was off both Monday and Tuesday so we had lots of fun family time.  This included a trip to the local children's farm which has a massive sandpit so despite the Baltic weather the boys enjoyed themselves - snow boots in June!

Tuesday - Another holiday day so we went for a long walk which surprise, surprise involved us coming home with enough sticks to build a bonfire - again!

Wednesday - Our local church fun day today which included water fun and painting outdoors, although the boys were somewhat more drawn to the bouncy castle!

Thursday - Wet, wet, wet, so we jumped in some puddles!

Friday - It was super windy today so I thought, let's make a kite.  I took inspiration from kite making pins (try Maya Made), but didn't really read them in too much detail, 'I know how to make a kite' I thought... turns out I know very little about kite making!!

I took heaps of pictures ready for a great tutorial on kite making, our effort was made from sticks, felt and wool and was beautifully decorated by Bud.

But, when it came to actually flying it.... well it turns out I might have been more likely to grow wings and fly than our kite actually making it off the ground - despite gale force winds!  When Hubby came home he took one look at it and declared that the sticks were too heavy, well whatever the reason that kite was going nowhere!

That made for two very disappointed boys!  So, I had to very speedily rack my brains for anything that we might have in the house that might fly....... aha a plastic bag!  I looped wool through the handles and tied them together, and shock it actually flew!

Possibly the easiest kite in the world ever, plus two very happy boys, phew!

Saturday - I've wanted to do this for ages - the ice rescue!  I've seen lots of posts about it, most recently at The Imagination Tree.  I froze some of the boys bugs in water coloured with food colouring.

Then I told the boys they had to set the bugs free.  Their immediate reaction was to smash the ice on the floor (what a surprise!), but these were pretty big lumps so I gave them some magic potion (warm salt water with a bit of red food colouring) and the bugs started to be set free.

A huge hit and one we'll be doing again, bugs currently freezing in the freezer as we speak!

Sunday - The boys had heaps of fun, lunch in a pub garden turned into a huge bug hunt with friends.  Lots of scrambling in the dirt for ants!

I hope you've enjoyed our week outdoors, more tomorrow!

If you like what you've read why not subscribe?  Or, feel free to pin any of our pictures.

Have a great week!

    1. I froze them in little Tupperware pots. If they get stuck when I tried to pop them out I rested the pot in a bowl of hot water for a minute and that was enough to loosen them. Hope that helps!
